Maldon rally driver Nabila Tejpar will take on one of the most competitive single-make rally series in Europe in 2018 after securing a deal to contest the Iberican Peugeot Sport Cup and selected FIA World Rally Championship outings at the wheel of her Peugeot 208 R2.

The reigning Prestone MSA British Ladies Rally Champion made the upgrade to the latest specification 208 R2 this season and after originally planning to contest the series once again in 2018, has been offered the opportunity to head into Europe to tackle events in Spain and Portugal.

The 24 year old from Essex has been rallying since her 21st birthday and despite a relatively short competitive career, has secured the BRC Ladies title and narrowly missed out on a Cadet Cup podium during her 2017 campaign.

The progression into a new car for the season was originally destined to return to the domestic championship but when an opportunity was offered to her by the PT Racing Team to contest the Peugeot Rally Cup Iberica, she would have to move fast to secure a slot in the popular, six-round series.

“We thought we had our plans all laid out for the season ahead but then PT Racing approached us, which changed all that in an instant” explains Tejpar.

“We have been working really hard behind the scenes to make it happen and thanks to the continued support of our sponsors, we have managed to secure a deal to contest the Cup which will be a massive challenge for me in just my third year in the sport”.

Not only is the Peugeot Cup Iberica one of the most popular single-make championships in Europe, but the series kicks off with the sixth round of the FIA World Rally Championship, The Vodafone Rally de Portugal on 17th – 20th May.

Three rounds of the championship take place throughout the summer, before embarking on the second WRC event in the Cup, Rally de Espana in October. The season ends with November’s Rali Casinos do Algarve.

The opening round will mark Tejpar’s debut overseas WRC event and is one of the toughest on the 13 round calendar. But she feels she is ready to take on the challenge ahead and along with co-driver Richard Bliss, and will head to Portugal with an open mind.

“I want to progress my career, and I feel combining an international season in with my other plans, will allow me to gain a great deal of experience over the year” she says.

“I need to get outside of my comfort zone and really push myself and Rally Portugal will undoubtedly do just that. I know I have a professional team around me who I can learn from and going up against a dozen or so competitors in identical cars will be a great benchmark for me. It’s a new but very highly regarded championship in Europe and it’s an opportunity I could never turn down, I’m very lucky to have the chance and I will be grabbing this with both hands.”

Tejpar won’t be turning her back on the UK completely however, although she will miss the opening round of the British Championship due to taking part in a Portuguese national event to get acclimatised to the roads in the country.

“The British Rally Championship is still a vital part of the plans for the season so we will still be contesting selected rounds this year” she adds.

“But it’s important that I have some knowledge of the style and nature of the stages over there.  With round one being a WRC round, I won’t really have time to settle in as there will be enough pressure as it is. So getting a decent event under our belts beforehand is imperative.”

Tejpar will be sponsored for the third year by Pump Technology and newly acquired support from Matrix Construction, as well as continued support from NUA Motors, Advanced Chiropractic, Allied Polymer, Lumi and Environmental Biotech.
