International rally co-driver Phil Hall will head to Australia this week to contest the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship and alongside it, returns to an exciting relationship with the Royal Air Force.

Hall, from Mansfield in Nottingham, was previously a full time serviceman but left the RAF in 2015 to pursue a professional rally career. After returning to the service earlier this year as a reservist, Hall will once again wear the iconic RAF livery that launched his career, starting with the Kennards Hire Rally Australia (16-19 November 2017).

Hall has once again teamed up with Ford Fiesta R2 pilot Rhys Pinter for the event after completing the event with the popular Aussie two years ago. The gruelling event is the ultimate test of the crew and car with three days of flat-out driving across rugged terrain in the Forests close to the Coffs Harbour rally base. The monster 49km Nambucca Special Stage will challenge the worlds best drivers and Hall will be aiming to take an RC4 class win alongside Pinter in the event.

“I represented the RAF in rallying for three years whilst I served full time, both in the UK and internationally” says Hall.

“I'm really excited that now I have returned to the Service, I have re-established that relationship whilst competing in the World Rally Championship.”

“It's fitting that I made my WRC debut in Australia and now I will return there with the RAF livery” he continues.

“I`m extremely proud of the Royal Air Force and to be able to promote their message. Without the Royal Air Force, I would not be in the incredible position I am today competing at the top level of motorsport. They gave me the opportunity and support to really progress. As an organisation, the RAF promotes sport at all levels and it's great to be a part of that.”

RAF Rallying Competition Secretary, Wing Commander Craig Teasdale is pleased to see the Royal Air Force highlighted on the world stage with Hall.

“We are all very excited to have SAC Phil Hall back in RAF Rallying” says Teasdale.

“He only left the service for a short time but has transformed from a promising RAF competitor to fully experienced and respected professional competing at the highest levels of the sport.”

“The RAF Sport Lottery provided some modest support for Phil in the early days and he has returned on that investment exponentially. Now a well recognised international competitor, Phil has successfully competed in cutting edge competition cars across the globe and in premiere championship classes.  It is a classic rally version of the student becomes the master.  He is now an inspiration to us all, a living example of what can be done with talent, dedication and enthusiasm.  It is an honour to have our very own rally royalty back amongst our ranks.”

Taking place over 318km and 21 stages, Rally Australia begins on Friday 16thNovember with three new stages repeated later that day.  Saturday is the longest leg of the event at 140km before three stages round off Sunday followed by the ceremonial finish in Coffs Harbour.

“It’s a very special place for me and I love competing in Australia,” says Hall.

“It will be great to partner Rhys once again, we make a great team both in and out of the car.  Despite being the underdogs on the event as the only competitors in RC4, it doesn’t mean we are there to make the numbers up. I'm sure we will be trying as hard as ever

Hall is sponsored by WWW.ITSMYMOTORSPORT.CO.UK
He is also supported by the MSA Academy and the Royal Air Force.
